چکیده

Preferential flow in the unsaturated soil is an important and common phenomenon, which is difficult to be characterized. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the Active Region Model (ARM), which incorporated the fractal flow patterns into the continuum approach, has been developed to characterize preferential water flow in the unsaturated zone. Experiments were conducted to measure water flow process in a bare soil landfill cover and a ET landfill cover. Modeling analysis indicated that the water content distributions could be simulated generally well with the ARM by considering preferential flow in the porous media. Compared with the ARM, the continuum model underestimated percolation for both bare soil and vegetation coved plots.

Numerical Simulation and Estimation of the Transvers Macrodispersivity Coefficient of Aqueous Phase (Miscible) Contaminants of Salt Water in a Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Porous Media

Deterioration of groundwater resources in coastal regions due to the progression of saline water in aquifers in these regions is currently one of the important issues in providing water needs in these areas. In coastal regions, saline water enters the aquifer from below in shape of wedge. Due to the difference in the density between fresh and salty water, an interface zone forms between two flu...

Transient Fluid Flow Modeling in Fractured Aquifer of Sechahoon Iron Mine Using Finite Element Method

Considering the fact that a large volume of iron reserve in the Sechahoon Iron Mine in Yazd Province has located under the water table, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive study on water flow within the pit and its surroundings. The conceptual model of the aquifer was created using surface and underground geological information compared with water table data of the area of interest. In t...

River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin

Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...

Investigating the Effect of Heterogeneity on Buckley-Leverett Flow Model

The performance of water flooding can be investigated by using either detail numerical modeling or simulation, or simply through the analytical Buckley-Leverett (BL) model. The Buckley-Leverett analytical technique can be applied to one-dimensional homogeneous systems. In this paper, the impact of heterogeneity on water flooding performance and fractional flow curve is investigated. First, a ba...

Simulation of water surface profile in vertically stratified rockfill dams

Detention rockfill dams are accounted as economically efficient structures for flood control, river bed and banks protection, flow diversion, etc. As the hydraulic behavior of these structures, when are used for flood control, is affected by the depth of water in their porous media, there is interests to predict water surface profile through the body of these structures. In this research, we de...
